Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King

The Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King is part of the Touring family of Harleys, built for extensive highway cruising with maximum rideability. The Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King’s distinct features borrow from Harley’s big-twin models of the 1940’s and 50’s, striking a nostalgic chord in any motorcycle rider. The FLHR Road King’s characteristic large Hiawatha chrome headlamp and nacelle flanked with twin driving lights, detachable windscreen to resist the elements and weather-resistant, lockable, hard-shell saddlebags are reminiscent of the “retro cruiser” look that gives it a humble yet sturdy appearance. The FLHR Road King employs the Touring family frame and was introduced with a Shovelhead motor in 1980. The Road Kingroad king is built for medium to long-haul excursions with a two piece, two-up seat, removable passenger pillion, uses air-adjustable rear suspension and full-length, height adjustable footboards designed with the rider’s and passenger’s comfort in mind.

The FLHR Road King has an ample FL-style front end that straddles a big-skirted fender with impressive, sweeping high-rise handlebars. The air-cooled, 1584cc, 96 cu., 45-degree, Twin Cam black powder-coated engine with chrome covers is built for maximum torque, speed and stability and features a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. The drivetrain is rubber-mounted within the touring frame to minimize vibrations from the big V-twin engine and to protect the rider. The FLHR Road King weighs 737 lbs. dry and is 93.7 in. long. Although the Road King has substantial weight, it is known to be remarkable easy to handle at low and high speeds, providing the rider and passenger with a comfortable, relaxing ride.

The FLHR Road King classic Harley styling is available in a multitude of vintage colors reminiscent of 1960’s muscle cars such as fire red pearl, black cherry pearl, two-tone suede blue pearl and two-tone olive pearl. The Road King is priced between $17,345 and $18,055, depending on customization.
